Not an electrolyte component but the solvent used in electrode manufacturing. It dissolves the PVDF binder so that active material, conductive additive and binder can be mixed into a homogeneous slurry. It is removed by drying after coating. Keeping moisture at ≤200 ppm in battery-grade NMP is critical to electrode quality.
