In external-reflection (IRRAS) mode the catalyst is loaded on a Ø10 mm glassy carbon electrode, which is pressed towards the infrared crystal; the beam passes through the thin electrolyte layer between crystal and electrode and reflects from the electrode surface.
A digital micrometer integrated into the electrode precisely adjusts the electrode–crystal distance, controlling the thin-layer thickness and the reflected signal intensity.
The two-chamber H-type body is separated by a membrane, with gas inlet/outlet ports in cathode and anode compartments.
| Cell type | Two-chamber H type, replaceable membrane |
| Mode | External reflection (IRRAS) |
