The flat corrosion cell is designed for corrosion measurements on sheet or plate samples. The sample is pressed against a 1 cm² circular opening in the side wall with an O-ring; the opening size can be customized. Mounting and removing samples is easy.
This version has an all-PTFE body and a volume of 500 mL. The PTFE body offers almost universal chemical resistance and can be used up to 260 °C. It is a safe choice for electrolytes containing HF or strong alkali, which attack glass and quartz.
Electrical contact is made by a gold-plated copper contact pressed onto the sample; the gold plating resists corrosion. The sample holder frame is 316 stainless steel. There is room under the cylindrical body for a magnetic stir bar. A 20 × 20 mm platinum mesh electrode is used as the counter electrode; the reference electrode has its own salt bridge, filled with saturated KNO₃ for tests that must avoid chloride (manufacturer data).
