The all-PTFE flat plate/sheet sample cell is a two-layer cell for measurements with sheet working electrodes: the upper layer is the cell body and the lower layer is the fixing plate. The sample sits below a 1 cm² circular opening in the bottom and the surrounding screws press it tightly against an O-ring; the opening size can be customized. The PTFE body offers almost universal chemical resistance and can be used up to 260 °C. It is a safe choice for electrolytes containing HF or strong alkali, which attack glass and quartz.
Electrical contact to the sample is made with copper tape stuck to the sample. The cell is used for electrochemical treatment before SEM and coating corrosion tests, and works best together with an electrode stand. Copper tape, reference electrode (Ag/AgCl or saturated calomel), counter electrode (platinum rod or sheet) and the electrode stand are sold separately; the working sample is supplied by the user.
