The all-PTFE single-chamber photoelectrochemical cell is designed for photoelectrochemistry where chemical resistance comes first. The PTFE body offers almost universal chemical resistance and can be used up to 260 °C. It is a safe choice for electrolytes containing HF or strong alkali, which attack glass and quartz. The side quartz window has transmittance above 95% (manufacturer data) and the quartz can be removed and replaced quickly.
The neck is externally threaded; the PTFE inner core of the lid rotates 360° to align the electrodes (usually parallel to the window), and the PTFE outer cap is tightened to close the cell. Electrode feedthroughs are sealed with O-ring screws and a sub-surface sparger is fitted. The cell is used with 6 mm shaft, long-type electrodes. An optional sampling port can be added (extra charge).
In the standard-sealed cell, the lid and electrode feedthroughs are closed with O-rings and sealing screws. An oxygen-free atmosphere is maintained by purging with nitrogen or argon. It is not intended for vacuum or pressure.
