The coating corrosion test cell is an upright cell with the sample mounted underneath. The sample sits below a 1 cm² circular opening in the base and four screws on top press it tightly against an O-ring; the opening size can be customized.
Electrical contact to the sample is made with copper tape stuck to the sample; because the tape is easy to replace, good conductivity is kept even after corrosion. The cell is used for electrochemical treatment before electron microscopy (SEM) and for corrosion performance tests of coatings.
The body is made of borosilicate glass 3.3, which has low thermal expansion (3.3 × 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹) and the highest resistance classes against water (HGB 1) and acids (S 1). Avoid sudden temperature differences above 120 °C to reduce the risk of breakage.
The single-layer body is a simple, economical choice for routine measurements at room temperature. If temperature control is needed, choose the jacketed version of the same cell.
