The flat corrosion cell is designed for corrosion measurements on sheet or plate samples. The sample is pressed against a 1 cm² circular opening in the side wall with an O-ring; the opening size can be customized. Mounting and removing samples is easy.
Electrical contact is made by a gold-plated copper contact pressed onto the sample; the gold plating resists corrosion. The sample holder frame is 316 stainless steel. There is room under the cylindrical body for a magnetic stir bar. A 20 × 20 mm platinum mesh electrode is used as the counter electrode; the reference electrode has its own salt bridge, filled with saturated KNO₃ for tests that must avoid chloride (manufacturer data).
The body is made of borosilicate glass 3.3, which has low thermal expansion (3.3 × 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹) and the highest resistance classes against water (HGB 1) and acids (S 1). Avoid sudden temperature differences above 120 °C to reduce the risk of breakage.
The single-layer body is a simple, economical choice for routine measurements at room temperature. If temperature control is needed, choose the jacketed version of the same cell.
