This three-compartment cell (gas, cathode, anode) moves from the entry-level design to a true flow-cell layout: gas enters at the top and leaves at the bottom, liquid enters at the bottom and leaves at the top.
In a flow cell the gas is fed from the gas chamber to the back of the gas diffusion electrode; catholyte and anolyte are pumped through separate compartments and the cathode and anode compartments are separated by an ion-exchange membrane.
Its low cost suits catalyst screening and quick feasibility tests. The body can be PMMA (acrylic), PTFE or PEEK.
