The in-situ Raman battery test cell is designed to follow structural and interfacial changes of the electrode material by Raman spectroscopy during charge/discharge. The electrode–window distance is below 2 mm.

The cell body is high-purity titanium; an internal spring adjusts the load on the electrode stack and keeps the electrodes in close contact with the separator.

The cell can be assembled and sealed in a glovebox and then measured outside; O-ring sealing keeps air and moisture out.

It is connected to a battery cycler or potentiostat for measurements during charge/discharge, and the sample can be removed undamaged after the test.
