This cell mimics a lithium coin cell and lets dendrite (needle-like metal growth) formation on the cross-section of a lithium sheet be observed directly with an optical microscope.
The conductive substrate is high-purity titanium; the sapphire window transmits more than 95% of light (manufacturer data). The three-electrode option adds a reference electrode.
