The small-volume side-illuminated PEEK photoelectrochemical cell is an upgraded version of the small-volume sample-holder cell. The body is PEEK and withstands up to 110 °C (manufacturer data). The working electrode is mounted and removed from the side; the sample is pressed against a 1 cm² defined-area opening, which can be customized.
The reference port has a salt bridge as standard; its tip is 2 mm from the working sample and reduces the ohmic (iR) drop. It comes with a light-shielded (amber) AgCl reference electrode and a platinum wire counter electrode (manufacturer data). PEEK is an engineering polymer with high mechanical strength. It is not suitable for concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid or strongly oxidizing media.
