The spherical corrosion test cell is a round-body glass cell for measuring the corrosion behaviour of metal samples with three-electrode methods. A 15 mm diameter sample mounts on the working electrode holder; the exposed area is 1 cm² (manufacturer data).
An adjustable-angle salt bridge (Luggin capillary) points the reference electrode at the sample and reduces the ohmic (iR) drop. To keep chloride ions away from the sample, the salt bridge is filled with saturated potassium nitrate (KNO₃). The F-type inlet bubbles gas through the solution before the measurement and only feeds gas over the surface during it.
The set consists of the cell body, F-type gas inlet, salt bridge, liquid seal, PTFE stoppers, sample holder, reference electrode and graphite rod counter electrode (manufacturer data). The cell can be used in corrosive media other than HF at room and elevated temperature.
The body is made of borosilicate glass 3.3, which has low thermal expansion (3.3 × 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹) and the highest resistance classes against water (HGB 1) and acids (S 1). Avoid sudden temperature differences above 120 °C to reduce the risk of breakage.
The single-layer body is a simple, economical choice for routine measurements at room temperature. If temperature control is needed, choose the jacketed version of the same cell.
