A version of the three-chamber gas diffusion cell with a high-purity quartz observation window; flooding, bubble formation and salt deposition on the gas diffusion electrode can be watched during electrolysis.
In a flow cell the gas is fed from the gas chamber to the back of the gas diffusion electrode; catholyte and anolyte are pumped through separate compartments and the cathode and anode compartments are separated by an ion-exchange membrane.
A 7 mm cathode–anode gap is offered for general research and a shortened 3 mm gap for medium-to-high current densities; the short gap reduces ionic path and cell resistance.
