These anodes catalyze the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), in which water is oxidized to oxygen, on the anode half of a CO₂ electrolyzer; while CO₂ is reduced at the cathode, the anode balances the electron flow. The substrate is 200 µm hydrophobic carbon paper carrying an IrO₂ or IrOₓ catalyst at a default loading of 2 mg cm⁻². Size is 10 × 10 cm.
The codes indicate medium suitability: CCI for neutral/acidic and CLK for neutral/alkaline systems. The product is designed for MEA electrolyzers. One important note: carbon-based materials can oxidize and wear over time at high anodic potentials, which is why titanium is usually preferred as the carrier in water-electrolysis anodes. For long-duration tests, also consider the titanium-felt anode option.
