This product is a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin based on styrene-divinylbenzene with sulfonic acid groups. In the solid-electrolyte cell of a CO₂ reduction (CO₂RR) electrolyzer, it serves as a porous layer between cathode and anode that provides ion (proton and cation) conduction. The sulfonate groups are bound to the polymer chain and stay fixed, while protons and other cations move through this network.

The advantage of a solid-electrolyte cell is that the cathode product (e.g. formate) can be collected as a pure liquid solution without added dissolved salt; pure formic acid solutions have been demonstrated in the literature with this approach. According to manufacturer data, cross-linking is 8–9% and moisture content is 50–65%. The product is supplied in a 10 g bottle.
