W1S1011 is a carbon cloth gas diffusion layer (GDL) made of woven carbon fibers, treated with PTFE and carrying a microporous layer (MPL) on one side. It is about 410 µm thick with an areal weight of 200 g/m². It is supplied as a 400 × 400 mm sheet and can be cut to size.
Its woven structure is more flexible and thicker than carbon paper. Its sibling W0S1011 is a plain carbon cloth without PTFE or MPL. W1S1011 is used when a ready-made water-repellent GDL with MPL is needed, for example as anode/cathode GDL in PEM fuel cells or as cathode GDL in PEM water electrolyzers. Catalyst ink is normally coated on the MPL side.
