A version of the two-electrode titanium battery test cell with an advancing mechanism that applies stepwise pressure to the electrodes. Each notch of the adjustment knob advances the pressure piston by 0.02 mm (manufacturer data); a self-levelling design spreads the load evenly over the electrode surface so the sample is not crushed. Stack pressure has been shown to strongly influence lithium deposition morphology and Coulombic efficiency in lithium-metal anodes, and this cell suits studies in which pressure is varied in a controlled way.
The body is high-purity titanium; the inner insulator is PEEK and the terminals are gold-plated copper. Chemically resistant O-rings and a screw-down lid keep the cell gas-tight, so it can be assembled in a glovebox and then tested outside. After testing, the cell is easily disassembled and cleaned without damaging the sample, so electrodes can be recovered for post-mortem analysis. The separator is supplied by the user.
