A PEEK-bodied cell that simulates a lithium coin cell and lets dendrite (needle-like metal growth) formation on the cross-section of a lithium sheet be observed directly through a sapphire window with an optical microscope. The conductive substrate is glassy carbon. In this model, a measured pressure can be applied to the electrodes with a torque wrench; a self-levelling design spreads the load evenly over the electrode surface. Since stack pressure is known to change lithium deposition morphology, it is suited to observing dendrite growth under pressure.
